How To Prepare Your Roof For Fall

With fall approaching, it is time to start thinking about your roof. Once the leaves start to fall, it’s not long until the snowfall begins. And your roof needs to be prepared. This way, you can prevent any damage from occurring prior to winter, since winter roof repairs can be challenging.

Here is how you can prepare your roof for fall.

Trim Surrounding Branches

You should try to keep your roof as clean as possible throughout the fall. If surrounding branches, or their leaves s get on your roof, they could freeze over winter, making it challenging to remove them. Trim any surrounding branches on trees or tall bushes that overhang your roof. This can help prevent leaves from piling up on top. And, you also reduce the risk of a branch being blown onto your roof and possibly damaging it.

Clean Your Gutters

During the summer, you may not have paid that much attention to your roof. And, you may not have had to. But, it is possible that dirt, leaves, sticks, or other debris could have piled up into your eavestroughs without you knowing. Check your gutters before fall starts. You will be able to detect whether or not there is a build up of debris. If there is, try to remove it as soon as possible. It is wise to check your gutters every other week during fall. After fall is over, you should do an in depth clean of your gutters to prepare them for snowfall.

Check Attic Ventilation

Once fall rolls around, you should take a trip up to your attic. See if the air seems more moist than usual. You can also check your vents to make sure air is circulating properly. Your attic ventilation is one way to protect your roof from any leaks or ice dams. And, it is much easier to repair your ventilation prior to fall as opposed to doing it right before winter.
