3 Reasons Why Your Roof Is Leaking

If your roof is leaking, it is not a good sign. It can be a sign of roof damage, which can lead to damage to the interior of your home. And, chances are you don’t want to have to put buckets or towels all around your home to stop leaks from ruining your furniture or floors.

Here are 3 reasons why your roof could be leaking.

Holes In The Roof

A hole in your roof could have been created from harsh weather conditions or from not maintaining your roof. And, they are the easiest way for water to find its way into your home. They can also be created if you remove anything from your roof, such as a satellite dish.

Make sure that any holes in your roof are repaired immediately. Not only because of the leak, but because it can disrupt your HVAC systems airflow and can allow outdoor debris to come into your home.

Damaged Shingles

Damaged shingles are not uncommon. At the end of the day, your shingles are not indestructible. Their job is to allow water or outdoor debris to run smoothly off your roof. But, if for some reason they are damaged, they might not be able to do that.

Damaged shingles can be caused from improper installation, storm damage, or harsh winds. You may be able to detect missing shingles by checking around the outside of your home for pieces of shingles that  fallen off your roof. If you are experiencing any leaks, check for missing shingles.

Clogged Eavestroughs

Keeping your eavestroughs clean is essential for your roof’s health. But, they can easily get clogged with leaves or sticks during seasonal changes. If they do, it is easy for water to build up and make its way under your shingles or roof foundation, and then into your home. The best way to prevent clogged eavestroughs is to make sure you check them daily and clean them regularly.
