What To Do If Your Roof Leaks

Roof leaks can be a massive inconvenience for home owners. They may damage your roof and even the inside of your home. But, there are a few things you can do if they happen to take control of the situation.

Here are some tips for roof leaks.

Move Furniture

If your roof leak has found its way into the inside of your home, you should move your furniture away. You don’t want to risk your furniture being damaged from the leak. If you have a smaller space where the leak is happening, try covering your furniture to protect it as much as possible.

Control The Water

Once a leak starts, chances are you will need a professional to fix it. But, to prevent any water damage inside your home, grab any buckets, garbage cans, towels, cups or anything that can capture the water. This way, you won’t have to deal with a giant water mess in your home. Additionally, make sure you are home while your are controlling the water so nothing overflows.

Relieve Water Pressure

If the leak is inside your home, you may see a sagging bulge coming from your ceiling. This will tell you exactly where the water is piling up. Get a small screwdriver and carefully puncture the bulge to allow the water to escape. This can help prevent the water from spreading or the bulge from exploding on its own.

Take Photos

When the leak happens, take photos of any damage or bulges. This way, you can show the roofing professional or insurance company exactly what happened. Leaks can get worse quickly, so it is best to document the leak from beginning to end. It can also help be a reference if you get a leak again.
