5 Things To Look For When Cleaning Your Roof In The Spring

Spring roof cleaning allows you to see the condition of your roof after a log, harsh winter. Checking for damage and cleaning your roof can help prolong its lifespan. It also keeps your home’s exterior looking nice and clean.

Let’s go over 5 things to look for when cleaning your roof in the spring.

Check The Gutters

After the winter months have passed, you may notice that your gutters are clogged with debris. You should first remove all debris that is visible. Next, you want to move to your downspout, which is one of the most important parts of your gutter. You can use a hose to get to any hard to reach areas. After they are clean, check to see if there is any damage, such as holes or missing fasteners. If anything is damaged, make sure you get it fixed as soon as possible.

Look At The Roof

Winter tends to be your roof’s enemy. Keep an eye out for any missing or curling shingles. If any shingles are missing, it creates a weak spot for your roof. If you find any curling shingles, it may be an indication that your home is not properly insulated. If you spot curling shingles, check your attic’s insulation to assess it. You should also check to see if there is any mold since it can get into your roof and end up lifting shingles and causing damage.

Trim Branches

Trees can damage your roof significantly. You should trim any branches that may be hanging over your roof or are extremely close to it. Trimming the branches near your roof can also help prevent your gutters from getting clogged since there will be less leaves falling onto your roof.
