4 Signs That It Is Time To Replace Asphalt Shingles

Asphalt shingles are the most common roofing material. They are durable and long-lasting. However, nothing lasts forever. Heat, cold, rain and ice all wear away at your roof. At some point, you will need a roof replacement.

Let’s go over 5 signs that it is time to replace asphalt shingles.

Curling Shingles

If you notice that your shingles are curling, it means the asphalt is drying out. Furthermore, your shingles become less durable. When your shingles curl, they can also be blown off easily. If this is the case, you have to replace the shingles that have fallen off, or in some cases, your entire roof.

Moss

Moss can be irritating as it can cover your roof and be unsightly. And it can seriously damage your asphalt shingles. If you notice large amounts of moss, it is best to have it removed quickly. This way, the moss cannot grow under the shingles and lift them. When moss grows under shingles, it can also lead to leaks in your home.

Missing Granules

Granules can be seen on the surface of asphalt shingles. They protect shingles from UV rays, which can damage your shingles and wear them out. If your shingles are damaged by UV rays, they can crack and eventually curl. Therefore, it is best to ensure your shingles aren’t missing too many of their protective granules.

Age Of Roof

If you have an older roof, then chances are your shingles may be worn out. Many asphalt shingles can wear out over time, especially if you live in an area with harsher weather conditions. If you notice any damage or worn out shingles, it is best to get it replaced. But if your roof is still intact, then there is no need to repair it.
